There is a legitimate chance that West Ham get relegated this season.

How they have allowed themselves to slip into that position is remarkable. One of the biggest issues facing West Ham this season has been the fact that the striker play has been so terrible. Beset by injuries the club has some reasons to be upset. Between Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew both being injured the club was left with essentially just Simone Zaza as a natural center forward. That experiment hasn’t worked out to say the least.

In order to rectify the issue within the club the Hammers must sign Saido Berahino in January.   Berahino’s main issue at this point in his career has been attitude. He perhaps sought a way out of West Brom prematurely and has had that held against him essentially ever since. He’s a great striking prospect and exactly the kind of player who could help rectify West Ham’s current struggles.

Saido Berahino

Berahino is blessed and cursed by his huge confidence. The good news is that it does mean he would be able to drag some of the currently lagging West Ham squad out of their current mental ruts. The bad side of that is that he has proven to be hard to coach.

Slaven Bilic could handle Berahino easily however. Berahino’s problems always seem to stem more from a high level of ambition. As a coach that’s not a bad thing to deal with.

Though West Ham are not playing well right now they are a club who should be competing at the European level. That is the level that Berahino see’s himself competing at. If the board can squeeze a cut rate deal in for Berahino, who is only 23, then it could be a wonderful deal for now and for the future.

Despite his history of attitude the player’s contract is expiring at the end of the season and it would be a great time to move for him. A Premier League striker for as little as 5m would be a bargain and not one the club should overlook lightly.
