West Ham Ladies have been in the news recently regarding sexist treatment by the main club and board. With bad press really not the key for the board right now action is needed, will the Ladies come back? Will we see the ladies team centrally owned again?

The News

West Ham ladies have been in the news recently, and not for good reasons. When your owner is complaining about sexist treatment by a Premier League club it’s definitely going to hit the news, that is not the sort of headline that gets ignored anymore.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

According to the ladies chairman the main club were guilty on multiple points. Whilst other clubs are building new stadiums for their teams, we were guilty of not providing kit, charging for transport and refusing to treat a seriously injured player.

But it’s not what it seems.

West Ham ladies have not been centrally owned by the club in a while. The management and running was outsourced, and the clubs are only joined in name. They share no facilities, no cashflows or management. This includes the kits, injury treatments and of course the vehicles.

The Solution

Well, as stated in the opening paragraph, the club do not want any more bad press, even if the story isn’t based on anything substantial or real. Bad news is not something the club want associated with the stadium or the new look club. So it looks like they’re coming to a move that should solve everything.

With more and more clubs investing in their ladies club, so will West Ham. The club released a statement that confirmed the board’s intention to realign the clubs. They will both belong to the same entity and benefit from the same facilities and personnel.

It should see more women involved with the club, and hopefully more younger girls take up football with playing for the club as their goal, because that isn’t a dream that should be gender specific.
