West Ham stuttered to their first win at the new stadium yesterday. The performance had many good qualities but lacked a clinical edge. Have Bilic and the board got a target in mind?

Wilfried Bony

Wilfried Bony has long been a potential target for West Ham, with his ability to work in a direct game proving extremely attractive to the managers as well. His goal-scoring record at Swansea is also something that many managers have looked at. Big Sam had the choice of Bony or Carroll to sign for West Ham, and it seems he chose wrong.

Whilst at Swansea he was prolific, scoring 35 goals in 70 games for the Welsh side. His big money move to Manchester City hasn’t worked out but his talent is undeniable. He’s strong in the air and has a good finish, and would give us a real focal point for the attack.

We hit some really good crosses but lacked a proper aerial threat in the box, with Valencia often the only man in the box. Antonio scored a great header at the end, but a proper target man would have given us a much easier win. His versatility also means that we can mix up the attack route, either going aerial or into feet.

What Type of Deal are West Ham after?

There are different reports coming from separate sources regarding what sort of deal would be put forward for the striker.

More from Transfer Rumors

Most sources from the West Ham side of the deal indicate that we are after a loan deal for the striker until January, where he would then be sold to China who are willing to pay silly money for the player. This would give us the player for the worst part of our injury crisis, and give City money. All parties seem to win.

However some Manchester City sources place us going in for a buy. The fee would be around £20m, and see us sign a Premier League striker. I think this would be a great deal for both clubs, and something we should have done earlier.

With us playing City next week we are not going to sign him before the game. If he signs on loan we wouldn’t be able to play him against his own side anyway. However City aren’t going to be stupid enough to sell us a player who could score against them in the same week, so I don’t expect much news on this until the weekend.

Will it Happen?

Moving for Bony would show that the board weren’t bluffing about spending big, and I could see him being very successful at the club. Will the club go through with it? That remains to be seen.

However noise is coming from the right sources on this one, so stay tuned for further updates.
