    • What a great competitive debut for the side. He was great on the ball and always willing to get forward, the perfect winger to Andy Carroll as a striker because he exploited the space behind very well.

    He always looks to get enough space to do what he wants and then gets it done. He wasn’t miles clear for his goal but he really took the chance well despite strong attention from the centreback. He also looks good on set pieces and has a great cross when he gets the chance.

    Great free signing in the world of inflated fees.

    If there is a more frustrating footballer in the world I am not aware of him. Technically everything is there, the pace, the workrate and his ability with the football.

    However it all seems to come apart when he actually tries to do anything. He made a great run at one point where he jinked past a few defenders and drew the foul, but at other points he just seemed to make the wrong decision.

    It was summed up for me when he missed the target when through one on one, and missed it by a long way. I so wanted him to be a great player for us, but the simple fact of the matter is that Ayew is an upgrade for West Ham in all respects to Valencia.
