Aaron Cresswell’s Injury Fears Confirmed
With the season only weeks away the last thing West Ham fans wanted was news that one of their key players, Aaron Cresswell will be out for the season start, but today it was confirmed his knee injury would keep him out for 3-4 months
Fans have been dreading the potential blow to West Ham after the former Hammer of the Year after the left-back was launched into by the Karlsruhe player in the friendly match in Austria on Saturday.
The delay in finding out came from the need to fly Aaron Cresswell back to England to get the full scan on the injury.
You can see from the reaction from both the West Ham players and Slaven Bilic on the sideline that it was not the type of tackle you expect to see in a friendly.
And the sad news was confirmed this evening as Jack Sullivan and the Aaron Cresswell himself tweeted out.
It is a huge blow to West Ham who relied so much on his attacking capabilities from defence and his solid, after a fairly rocky start, defensive attitude. He is a perfect modern Premier League full back and we will miss him both in defence and going forward, who doesn’t want a left back that can score goals like this
It’s also a huge blow for Aaron Cresswell because with the addition of Big Sam Allardyce as England manager the odds were good for him to receive his first national call up at the end of August as he looks to rearrange the squad.

Allardyce was of course manager at West Ham when he came to the club, and under him Cresswell put in some amazing performances, winning the aforementioned Hammer of the Year award in his debut premier league season.
It is now unlikely that we will go for a young left back in the transfer market as we look to someone more experienced to provide cover. Jose Enrique is currently a free agent and can play both left and right back, something I think could mean he can act as cover for the first part of the season and then also play right back when Cresswell is back.
This may also step up our moves for Ginter, who is a versatile defender and can play across the back, although predominately in the right back position. Hull’s Robertson and Norwich’s Robbie Brady are also other names that have been bandied around in the initial chaos since the injury announcement.
Next: Is Mandzukic coming to West Ham?
We will see how this will all unfold but fast and decisive action in the transfer market is needed, because although I think Page, the young left back we have, is talented I do not think he can make the step up at the current time to the standard we need him to be.
