With West Ham’s transfer activity in the chase for a striker seemingly slowing to a halt at a familiar stage, could West Hands own media strategy be hurting them in their endeavours?

If you’d asked any Premier league fan what position of player West Ham were going to be looking at signing this website they would have immediately said a striker. Was this because west ham struggled to score goals this season? No, we were joint fourth in the goals scored table last season. So how did everyone know?

  • Both David Gold and David Sullivan have been unwavering in their media duties and have continuously stated that they want to sign a big name striker. Which at the time the fans believed thought was a wonderful intention: “Here’s our board saying that exactly what we want as well, aren’t we lucky!”

But now it seems that it might be coming back to bright us in the backside.

Before I continue, please note that I think that the transfers we have managed to do so far have been very impressive, it is simply the big striker signing that I think we’ve messed up.

If you are a club with a decent striker, you’re aware that West Ham are after a striker. Because you know they’re pretty desperate for one you know that you have a really good bargaining position. You know you’re likely to be able to inflate the prices of your striker and not have West Ham lose interest. You’re doing well.

Then take the position of the striker that you’re trying to sign.you know that we’re after a striker, so you’re already in a good position. Throw in the fact that these striker are good enough for Champions League football, something we can’t offer, and he’s already got the upper hand in this negotiation. West Ham need the striker more than the striker needs West ham.

And then you read that the West Ham board have offered another striker 150k without any negotiation, straight out of the door. Then you start licking your lips. You’ve got the club over a barrel with negotiation.

And even when looking close to home, we’ve now got two want away strikers because they know they’re being replaced. And clubs looking to buy them won’t pay top whack because they know we want them gone.

West Ham now have to try and deliver on their pre summer promises, otherwise they could be in danger of losing the strikers they have and not signing anyone new. And the fans certainly won’t be happy then.
