West Ham’s Ravel Morrison Decision
Every summer we get linked with former players who dad’s either believe we let go to soon our are now at the correct level for the club, this season it’s the turn of Ravel Morrison.
Morrison joined West Ham from Manchester United under a cloud of apprehension but with a huge silver lining of hope. Here was the player that Alex Ferguson had claimed had more talent than any player he’d seen since Paul Scholes was at the academy. That’s a big label to carry around. But he was coming to West Ham.

In the end his time at the club was sadly predictable; spells of sheet brilliance (who doesn’t remember that beautiful goal against Spurs) among long periods of anonymity which ended with him falling out with the manager and then leaving.
So why do people want him back?
His talent is without question, he is the type of player that on his day can glide past anyone and it just looks so natural that it looks unnatural when he doesn’t have the ball at his feet. When he works hard he makes space for himself and others, finding gaps in defences at ease.
Under Bilic the style of football we’ve developed will suit him far more than it did under Allardyce, with players like him filling our attacking midfield. The manager’s record with players displaying a poor attitude is also good, you only have to look as far as new signing Gokhan Tore to see just how much people respect him and are willing to work in his teams.
And if he reaches even half the player he should have been given his potential then we’d have a gem of a player, possibly someone who is second in creativity and attacking ability only to Payet.
But right now would not be a good time to get him back.

We’re undergoing a transition ourselves: a new stadium, a host of new players looking to gel together and the extra pressure of European competition: we simply can’t afford to be spending time pandering to the ego of an unproven player.
This becomes especially true when you look ad the talent we have in the squad already. Samuelson is a young player that needs nurturing, and so far I’m more convinced of his attitudes than Morrison’s. Lanzini is the same age and already looks a more complete player. West Ham simply do not need the aggravation that Morrison could bring.
You may think I’m not a fan but I really do like the player, I just think the trouble he could bring is to much of a negative when the potential upside isn’t enough given the talent of players that we have.
Sorry Ravel, unless you prove yourself I won’t be happy welcoming you back to west ham. It’s time to focus on the next few years rather than salvage what night have been. If Bilic had come along earlier I think I could have been writing a different article now, but some things in football just aren’t meant to be.
