Why West Ham need Jordan Pickford
West Ham need a new goalkeeper.
This season one of the most tragic, sad, defeating and sorry experiences any West Ham supporter had was watching the platoon of Darren Randolph and Adrian imitate Black Adder during matches instead of play goalkeeper.
Now while a good imitation of Black Adder could make for great programming on ITV or perhaps BBC 2 it simply is not the sort of thing professional football goalkeepers are meant to be during matches. They weren’t you say? They were playing goalkeeper honestly and to the best of their ability? Ok, now maybe it’s you who’s the joker here.

A new No.1
The point is and all sarcasm aside that if West Ham want to be a reasonable threat of a football club they need a new goalkeeper. The options at the club are too sparse and quite frankly too damn terrible. Following Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League there are several players at the club who are looking for a way out and one of them is the ever professional Jordan Pickford.
Pickford is a quality goalkeeper. He has good control in the air, quick reflexes and his judgement is top class. Unfortunately Sunderland’s defense this year appeared to be chasing the same BAFTA aspirations as the Hammers’ goalkeeper and never truly gave him a chance. With the prospect of spending the next year or even several of his career in the Championship a player with England national team aspirations needs to be in the Premier League and that is where Pickford wants to be.
Next: Cash Adrian for Pickford?
Sunderland have already rejected an 8 million pound bid from Everton for Pickford and are holding out for upwards of 25 million pounds. That is in and of itself ridiculous. They clearly have forgotten that they don’t have a negotiating leg to stand on. West Ham though could double Everton’s bid to maximum 16 million quid or perhaps someplace in the region of 12.5 to get Pickford down to London and quickly in time for pre-season.
